First Foreigner To Top The Class At United States Naval Academy In Its Long History
It is no mean feat for a young Singaporean naval officer. The USNA at Annapolis is one of the most prestigious naval college/academy (degree program) in the world. Among its illustrous graduates include former US presidents, senators and reknown naval admirers.
Quite an excellent attainment by this young Singaporean.

Media article extracts of Lion CITY local press.
Coffee shop Ah Peh (old folk) asked me, “What’s she saying? Good or no-good…”
A guy was quick to answer the old man, “She’s saying that she loves her country as committed as watching from the other side of the river bank…”
Just thinking aloud, if more and more people think and act this way, this could be a dam good excuse to hold on to the Lion CITY passport… while making a much better living (and opportunities) somewhere else.
There’s nothing wrong about staying away from homeland bacause of better opportunities; but it’s of no need to sing a “perfect excuse”. People would understand the rationale why people make a move to stay away, just like those 2/3 of the students in a recent forum with minister, openly reflected their choice of moving out for better opportunities and life.
But, still no need to provide an excuse that’s coming from text-book.
(It was raining with lightning outside the coffee shop)
A guy in the coffee shop says, “I would give the article she wrote a score of 98 marks out of 100”.

Pessimists Or Optimists? Or None of Both
The following media extracts of Lion CITY newspaper highlights both the aspiration and fear of younger generation of its society.
Key worrying factor of the young generation is about employment (jobs) for them.
What they should be worried about are, Sustainable Economy and Asset Pricing (by-product of high inflation and asset bubble) indeed!
They have yet to understand those complex economic issues of this era. What things would gradually add up are, values of jobs are not enough to pay off high inflationary standard of living compounded by very long period of mortgage (debt) payments. A situation of acquiring and holding on to assets (also at the same time, greater liability/debt) but with little cash and lower purchasing power to live quality life as a whole, especially at or near retirement age. To avoid the scenario, drastic economic (and maybe social as well) restructuring needs to be done to create greater balance of living standards and pure economic development.
Growth in asset prices may not equate to real economic growth and fair distribution of wealth, regardless of GDP figures suggest.
They also think that the “home turf” lacks opportunities for them to excel.
The are right (and may not be that right) to point out that overly emphasize economic development dilutes sense of pariotism.
Most telling sign – 2/3 of them prefer to move away (of course, if they could) to other “more liveable” countries for better quality life and opportunties to excel.
Something incongruence here, according to the report, still there’s 80% of them feel confidence about a better future for Lion CITY. (While 2/3 want to run away for better living and opportunities elsewhere…). A typical hypocritical response to open survey? OR simply they don’t know what they are talking… ?

An interesting electoral by-election (polls) has been held in the Lion CITY’s Hougang district on 26 May 2012. The secretary general of “Hammer Party” went on to disclose about the bias nature of the mainstream media for not reporting the political event as well as opposition candidate fairly.
One of the mainstream media/press couldn’t stomach such criticism and rebuked with an article (see below). What it says, “Don’t aim at mainstream media”; it is not fair to critisize the media as the reporters are reporting all news in fairness.
Another press article below gave a solid commentary about Lion CITY’s electoral system. It says that the ruling party should not adopt old campaining strategies for the new era. And should not “hold on to public resourcs” (such as upgrading of constituency etc.) as a scheme to gain advantage.
Anyway, the winning party in the recent electoral by-election turned up in full force to celebrate their victory. See below. “Hammers flying”…

Lee Kuan Yew says, “Korea, Japan and China are having close ties in economic relations. The three nations cooperation brings about high productivity. TPP remains a broad-based framework that also includes America; more and more countries in Asia Pacific realize that participation in TPP has values. The Asia Pacific needs Americans presence, to balance the rise of an economically powerful China.” Lee was at the Asia’s Future Forum held in Tokyo, Japan.
In his speech, Lee also mentioned about whether it is in Asia Pacific or The Atlantic, USA remains a powerful nation…. US should realize its unique situation with China, which involves not only competition but also cooperation.”
Lee remains confident that China’s economy will equal if not overtake America if there’s no upheaval in its development path…. However, Lee reckons that it is not in China’s national interest to confront the US (in Asia Pacific).”
Lee also stressed that he had no better choice than to allow Singapore to open up for casino economy. Lee went on to illustrate the serious business of managing leadership succession for Singapore government. He says “Only those who work long period with the government would succeed in such leadership roles, because only they could fully understand our policies…”

To emphasize specific subject matter is to make an issue clearer for targeted audience. In the process sometimes it is effective to adopt the “Enlarging” strategy, i.e. to make that issue/matter/item sounds as if it is the most endearing ideology to be embraced or to make it look as big as the Sun.
Sometimes it works to enlarge subject matter to grab attntion; but, one has to think about the unwanted surprises that follow with enlarged “situation”… that things can work the opposite way after been enlarged as other elements are being introduced into the original equation.
For example, here are some altered situations:
(1) Enlarged tail-pips may not necessarily increase car efficiency or horse power, but could bring in public protest.
(2) Enlarged IPO may destroy a company’s (and the underwriting bank) reputation.
(3) Enlarging an issue in engaged campaign without clarity of purpose may work the other way round…

Transformation of Space Allows Us To See With Our Heart
IT is rather difficult at times, to fully illustrate deeper relationships between our Heart and Material Conditions; in which I tend to define both as “The Space”.
Only if we get to feel and understand the deeper sense of Space then we allow ourselves to See the greatness of God’s creation, through nature and also, material conditions.
In most cases human like us would Lock ourselves in a tiny Space and hence, we only get to see the four walls up close! Once we use both our heart and vision we then get to See the element of Depth of Field in our surrounding; suddenly the Space is opened up, allowing us to feel and touch the nature of things and their existence with rich meaning…
In (the Bible) Book of JOHN, John the apostle had written on miracles performed by Jesus in several occasions. The sense of commitment and conviction to Christ cannot be based on the miracles alone. They must come from the heart and see with greater depth of field (Space). And common logics have limited dimensions to illustrate the deeper meaning of Word Made Flesh.
The following two sets of photographs show the concept of space and nature through a modern church (高雄) and a resort hotel (日月潭) Both are in Taiwan.
Just allow yourself to See the Space and not functionality, you start to connect yourself with nature again, from your heart. Yet without being there physically at this moment, there’s nothing block you from the greater sense of appreciatng the nature and beautiful things. Seeing God is the same; use your heart and your space within. Those seeking God and relying on material conditions are like Thomas. Logics can’t hold a candle in the instance.

For Acting Minister Chan Chun Sing, one concern is how Singaporeans look at their country many years from now.
Mr Chan said: “We hope not to be the one whereby our young people all go elsewhere and come back for retirement because that will have implications on what we said to provide opportunities for our young…”
He hopes there is a large enough corps of Singaporeans that will stay rooted here.
“Because if everybody just come and go and this is nothing but Hotel Singapore, then I think we have another set of challenges which we have to manage and I am not sure that it will put us in good stead going forward or is that the best way for us to go forward…”
…. “Do you all believe that we need a sufficiently strong Singaporean corps or do you think we can survive with a revolving door? Those are deep questions we have to ponder.”
*** The immigrants, economy and population growth rates are ather critical issues heavily weight on the Lion CITY’s future. Such issues have been put forth by its govt. for more public debates lately. This is good towards forging a better understanding society, hopefully.
There’s still lack of clarity of purpose however; a trace of “avoidance” of giving clearer answers on certain issues, such as the following example,
above: giving out S$144m of scholarships to attract foreigners to the Lion CITY yet it’s clear that “some” (no published figures) would just use that as a sprint-board to better grounds after they enjoy the benefits.
above: bringing in immigrants not the best solution after all… but…
above: building sand castle? Or Vision?
Key success factors for Lion CITY are, not only able to bring out the critical issues to be debated, more importantly public commitment for the solution(s) must be rallied to strive for the “next lap”. Greece’s dilemma is precisely at the critical juncture, its people still don’t buy-in to the proposed austerity solution; albeit everyone knew about the issues.
To know the issues is NOT Enough.
群体与期望值 CROWD EXPECTATONS
It is rather interesting to look at various forms of huge crowd gathering, to try decipher what’s the deeper meaning and expectations it carries.
above: huge crowd cheering while Liu Siang attained his best world timing for this year – 12:97 seconds at the World Diamond Athletic Meet yesterday at Shanghai.
above: “pissed off”, a crowd demonstration in Taipei city, throwing anger at their president Ma, for unpopular policies.
above: yesterday at a park in Lion CITY, hugh supporting crowd turned up for a political rally; highlight of the By-election for a constituency parliamentary seat.
above: this is so far the best article written on the debate of prof. Lim Chong Yeh’s proposal to increase lower wage income group wages. The essence is, theoretical (text book) economic and productivity arguments won’t save the plight of the lower income group. They just continue to “fade away” painfully …
